Chinese EV Maker Xpeng Accelerates European Expansion with Sales Tripling
Oslo, Norway – Xpeng, a leading Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has seen its international sales surge, more than tripling year-over-year between January and july to 18,701 vehicles. The growth is fueled by an expanding presence in the European market, where xpeng first began operations in 2021 with initial sales focused on Norway.
This push into overseas markets comes as Chinese EV companies navigate an increasingly competitive domestic landscape marked by a prolonged price war. To offset these pressures and capitalize on growing global demand for electric vehicles, manufacturers like Xpeng are shifting strategies to include direct production within key foreign markets, including Europe and Southeast Asia, despite rising business barriers.
Xpeng’s European entry began with Norway, leveraging the country’s robust EV infrastructure and incentives. The company’s expansion reflects a broader trend of Chinese automakers seeking to establish a foothold in international markets, challenging established automotive brands and accelerating the transition to electric mobility worldwide. The company currently offers models like the G9 SUV.
