Xiaomi unveils first transparent television

The Mi TV Lux OLED Transparent Edition from Xiaomi is a special television that you will not even see when it is off.

Chinese consumer electronics company Xiaomi is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. And the company wants to do that in style. Yesterday it announced the Mi TV Lux OLED Transparent Edition, a television like we have never seen before. What makes this television so special? It is completely transparent.

In de persaankondiging calls Xiaomi her latest gadget a ‘work of art’. You can form your own opinion about this, but that it is a special device is beyond discussion. The 55 ”OLED screen is transparent and therefore completely transparent. You don’t see the screen, which makes the images appear to float over your wall while watching television. This should provide an unparalleled viewing experience. Some other specifications that Xiaomi resolves about its creation: the refresh rate is 120 Hz, and the screen could display more than 1 billion color combinations, far more than the human eye is capable of registering.

However special the technology may seem, the idea is no longer completely new. Samsung and LG already presented a transparent display in 2015 and 2016. Xiaomi is the first manufacturer to commercially produce a transparent television. The company dares to take a gamble with new technologies, because a few years ago it was also one of the first television manufacturers to introduce the card of OLED screens pulled. Sales will start from August 16 in China, when the television comes our way, Xiaomi has not yet announced. Expect to have to dig deep into your wallet: in China, the television will cost just under 50,000 yuan, converted 6117.77 euros.
