Jakarta: At the end of 2019, Xiaomi announced the Mi Mix Alpha with a unique design, armed with a single screen that wraps around the front, sides and back of the device. Then earlier this year, Xiaomi launched its first foldable smartphone, the Mi Mix Fold.
Quotes GSM Arena, Xiaomi has considered combining the two designs, and registered the design patent in 2020 even though this patent document has only been published at this time.
The patent document shows a device with a combined design between Alpha and Fold. Basically, this device is capable of folding inwards, except for the secondary screen on the outside of the device which is not a separate panel.

Instead, a portion of the main screen that wraps around the side of one of the folded sections. The thicker portion which is the location of the camera embedding resembles the design carried by Alpha, and does not have a front camera.
This phone is considered not to need a front camera because the screen has a wrap design that allows users to take pictures with the main camera. Unfortunately, Xiaomi canceled the development of this phone before the innovative product was launched.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that this wrap-around design screen was challenging to produce when announcing the phone. With the cancellation decision, it has been confirmed that the phone is too complicated, even without other challenges caused by the complexity of the folding mechanism.
Rumors are circulating that Xiaomi is preparing to launch a second foldable smartphone in Q4 2021. The device is rumored to come with two separate displays, one with a 120Hz panel by Samsung, and the other with a 90Hz panel by Visionox.
However, a number of parties consider that a phone with a split-screen panel will be more difficult to manufacture, and will cost more so it has the opportunity to be marketed at a higher price, compared to current folding screen phones.
