Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra: a technological showcase to celebrate the brand’s 10th anniversary

As announced last week on Weibo or Twitter, Xiaomi held its anniversary conference to celebrate its 10 years of existence. The opportunity for the company to announce ultra versions of its Mi 10 and K30.

On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, Xiaomi held a conference on August 11. After 1.5 hours of speaking about the first 10 years of the company, Lei Jun, the CEO, finally announced a new smartphone. A variation of the Mi 10 called Mi 10 Ultra. A device that acts as a technological showcase, embedding all of Xiaomi’s know-how.

An Ultra push version of the Mi 10

To mark the occasion, Xiaomi has therefore decided to unveil the most powerful smartphone that the manufacturer has ever created. An “overboosted” version of the Mi 10 Pro released during the month of April. On the aesthetic side, this Mi 10 Ultra strongly resembles the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. The curved slab is back, as is the punched screen. This Mi 10 Ultra also offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz, thus exceeding the 90 Hz limit of the Mi 10 Pro. On the other hand, the rumor indicating that the front sensor is placed under the screen turns out to be false – too bad. On the back, as had been announced, the finish is ceramic, black or white depending on the version. A third finish was presented with a transparent back, revealing the interior of the smartphone.

As usual, the Chinese firm is putting the package on photography. At the back, there are 4 modules. The first, overlooking all the others is none other than a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, capable of an optical zoom x5. Digitally, the Mi 10 Ultra grows up to x120, which supplants the x100 zoom of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra released last February. The second telephoto lens, 12 megapixels, offers an optical zoom x2. The main module offers a 48 megapixel sensor while the ultra wide-angle module displays 20 megapixels. Beautiful photographic weapons which also allow it to impose itself in the ranking DX0 Mark with a score of 130 points. It thus exceeds the Huawei P40 Pro (128 points).

On the performance side, Xiaomi is not left out with the Snapdragon 865 coupled with up to 16 GB of RAM. Internal storage is limited to 512 GB in LPDDR 5 and UFS 3.1. Suffice to say that the smartphone is among the most powerful on the market. The 4,500 mAh battery is quite standard in itself. It is especially on the refill that the company has placed the majority of its balls. Indeed, the fast charge at 120 W is present and will allow a full charge in the space of 23 minutes. With wireless, Xiaomi promises a full charge in just 40 minutes at 50 W. The reverse charge is also present and is limited to 10 W. Largely enough to troubleshoot.

A high-level technical sheet for an anniversary smartphone which unfortunately will not see the light of day with us. Indeed, the Mi 10 Ultra will be exclusively reserved for China. Yan Liu, Country Manager of Xiaomi in France, indicated on Twitch (during a broadcast of the conference) that the phone is not planned to be released in France or in other countries of the world. A small disappointment, especially when we focus on the prices given. The most expensive version (16 GB + 512 GB) was announced at 6,999 yuan, or around 850 € after a gross conversion. A fairly impressive price given the capabilities of the smartphone.

A K30 Ultra as a rider

Another smartphone that will not see the light of day with us, a new version of the K30 pointed out during the conference. The K30 Ultra is therefore the ultimate version of the Redmi K30. As with the Mi 10, the design remains unchanged. The 6.67-inch panel is back, but this time it is refreshed to 120 Hz. On the back, the main 64-megapixel sensor is still present and for the processor, Xiaomi uses MediaTek’s recent platform, the Dimensity 1000+, a chip providing 5G connectivity. The 4,500 mAh battery can be quickly recharged to 33 W.

In addition, Xiaomi strikes a big blow by announcing a starting price of 1,999 yuan (or 244 € after gross conversion). A nod to that practiced by the first Xiaomi Mi in China.
