In 2021, Xiaomi settled on the podium of the best-selling smartphone brands with more than 190 million smartphonesaccording to data from Canalys and Counterpoint with a 14% market share, and even surpassing its most direct rival in the table, Apple, for several months. In Spain, the data is even better as it is the market leader.
In this context, it’s time to look to the future, to be a brand that sells a lot, but in the middle ranges, or to strongly attack the high-end and premium ranges (always following the philosophy of honest prices)? For Xiaomi the plan seems clear, to attack all markets, but also the high-end one and this is where the new Xiaomi 12 come into play, which inaugurate a price segment which ranges from 799.99 euros in the standard and 999.99 euros for the Xiaomi 12 Pro, which in its maximum configuration reaches 1,099.99 euros.
The challenge for the brand is twofold: to beat the brands that are already established in these ranges, such as Samsung and Apple, and to convince the public that Xiaomi is no longer just about BBB smartphones (good, nice and cheap), but also goes from powerful high-end equipment that can be perfectly used by those who are looking for the latest in technology, executives and the most techies. The path began to be sown with the Xiaomi Mi 11 (at that time they still had the last name ‘Mi’), and with the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and now with the new generation, the Xiaomi 12, the jump is already substantial.

Design
As with food, smartphones also enter through the eyes and brands know it. In this case Xiaomi is aware of this and opts for a premium design with double curvature on the front and back that facilitates the grip with an elegant matte finish that is pleasant to the touch and that prevents fingerprints from being marked.
The case of the Xiaomi 12 is especially interesting since we find a compact flagship with a 6.28-inch AMOLED screen with FHD + resolution and 120Hz, 69.9mm wide and weighing just 180 grams, protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

To know that we are facing a high range, it is not enough just to see it from the outside, but it is important to analyze the guts of a team. Xiaomi had one thing very clear with this new family of terminals and that is that they wanted to be the first to incorporate the brand new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1Qualcomm’s most powerful processor to date, a chip manufactured in 4nm and that multiplies AI capabilities by a quarter, doubles the power and saves up to 25% more battery than the previous generation (the Snapdragon 888).

The high range is increasingly demanding and differentiation is noticeable in the photographic systems that brands install on their smartphones. For this occasion, Xiaomi relies on Sony again and opts for the sensor IMX707 en su Xiaomi 12 Pro, thus installing one of the largest sensors that has been installed to date in a smartphone with a resolution of 50MP with f / 1.9 aperture and optical stabilization (OIS). It is accompanied by an ultra wide angle, also 50MP, with f/2.2 aperture and a 115º field of view, and a 50MP telephoto lens with f/1.9 aperture.
If we go to the Xiaomi 12, we find a main camera Sony IMX766 50MP with f/1.88 aperture, accompanied by a 13MP ultra wide angle with f/2.4 aperture and a 123º field of view, and a 5MP macro sensor with f/2.4 aperture.
In both cases, Xiaomi has evolved the software system to keep up with the hardware, incorporating the ProFocus mode, an algorithm that intelligently tracks and identifies moving objects (or people) to prevent blurry or out-of-focus photos. It also has automatic eye and trail focus and an improved night mode, both for video and photo, being able to capture, in both cases, 8K videos a 24fps.
On the front, Xiaomi opts for the same 32MP sensor with aperture f / 2.45 with HDR, night mode and beauty.
