Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Monday that Moscow “has seen Beijing’s proposals to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.”
Xi is on an important visit to Moscow, where he met Putin in the Kremlin shortly after his arrival in the Russian capital.
“We have seen your proposals for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, and we will discuss your initiative, which we respect,” Russian media quoted Putin as telling Xi.
As Putin said at the beginning of meeting Xi, Russia “envies” China for its rapid development in the past decades.
The two presidents began an “informal” meeting in Moscow on Monday, a long-awaited meeting that cements the alliance between Beijing and Moscow against the West.
Russian news agencies reported that the two presidents met privately in the Kremlin, before embarking on official talks scheduled for Tuesday.
