KONTAN.CO.ID – BEIJING. Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that the bamboo curtain country’s economy remains resilient despite increasing external risks. Besides, China has many policy tools available in Beijing, Saturday (19/9).

The world’s second largest economy continues to recover from the downturn caused by the corona virus pandemic.

But analysts say policymakers face a tough job maintaining a steady expansion over the next few years to turn China into a high-income country.

“The basic characteristics of the Chinese economy with sufficient potential, great resilience, strong vitality, great room for maneuver and many policy instruments have not changed,” Xinhua news agency quoted Xi as saying.

China has a strong manufacturing capacity, a very large domestic market, and enormous investment potential, Xi said.

Xi reiterated a “double circulation” strategy that would help steer the economy toward greater independence, as hostilities with the United States (US) and the global pandemic increase external risks.

China still enjoys “strategic opportunities” in its development, even though the coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated global challenges as globalization slows and unilateralism and protectionism increase, Xi was quoted as saying at a meeting on the country’s 14th five-year plan (2021-2025).

“We must work on our development in a world that is more volatile and uncertain,” he said.

Xi urged calm amid increasing hardships and challenges. “The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation can never be achieved easily by beating gongs and drums,” he said.
