Xbox Series S will receive an update to match the PS5

Microsoft announced that in its June Developer Update on Windows and Xbox, it is allowing the Xbox Series S to become a little more powerful. A new Xbox Series S developer tools update will free up more memory for teams to use, which could result in performance boosts for existing and future games on the system.

Microsoft says that “hundreds of additional megabytes of memory” are now available for use on the console. The lower levels of memory present in the Xbox Series S are often pointed out as a bottleneck for the system.

Now it will be PS5 with 16GB of RAM vs 10GB of ram on Xbox Series S, however Sony’s console is not using the 16GB for games.

These memory changes should, in turn, allow for improved “graphics performance”. Yes, we’re not sure what that means in real terms, but the gist of this update is that your Xbox Series S has become a little more powerful, in the hands of game developers.
