Xbox boss: – Bethesda games will be exclusive to Xbox Game Pass platforms in the future

Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Zenimax Media last fall, many have had one question in particular: does the acquisition mean that games like The Elder Scrolls VI, Starfield and upcoming Fallout games will overshadow the path on platforms other than the Xbox? Thursday evening Xbox boss Phil Spencer provided the answer.

– Of course, I can not sit here and say that every Bethesda game is Xbox-exclusive, because we know that is not true. These are contractual terms that we must honor. We have games on other platforms, and we will support those games on those platforms, says Spencer.

Here, the Xbox boss probably refers both to upcoming games that already have exclusivity agreements in the book, such as Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo both of which are to be released on PlayStation 5 first. In addition, enough games like Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online will continue to receive support as long as the company keeps the online games alive.

In the future, things will still be a little different.

– But if you are an Xbox customer, I want you to know that this is about delivering good exclusive games to you that are released on platforms that have Game Pass. And that’s our goal, that’s why we do this, that’s the root of the partnership we’re building – and the creative impact we’ll get on the market for Xbox customers will be the best it’s ever been for Xbox when we’m done here, he confirms.

In other words, games like The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield will only be available on platforms that support Xbox Game Pass. As of today, you can access Microsoft’s ever-growing game library in several ways: via Xbox consoles, PC, or streaming.

Thus, it looks pretty dark for PlayStation 5 customers who want to play Bethesda games in the future. Unless Sony opens up to allow Xbox Game Pass on the console – something Microsoft has said they are more than open to – Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo will be the preliminary swan song for the collaboration.
