Cody Rhodes Initially Dismissed John Mayer‘s All In Request as a Wrestling Prank

Wrestling ⁤fans may ⁣be surprised‌ to learn that Grammy ⁣Award-winning musician John Mayer⁣ attended the inaugural All In pay-per-view event in ⁢2018,⁤ but Cody⁣ Rhodes⁣ initially believed⁣ the request was a joke. The story, recently recounted by Rhodes and his wife ⁣Brandi on the “What Do You Wanna Talk ⁢About?” podcast, reveals the unexpected path to securing tickets for Mayer and his bachelor party.

The incident highlights the growing intersection between professional ⁢wrestling and mainstream celebrity culture, a trend increasingly‌ visible ⁣in ‌promotions like WWE and AEW. While WWE has featured personalities like Logan Paul, Jelly Roll, and Travis ‌Scott, ‍AEW also attracts high-profile attendees, as⁢ demonstrated by Mayer’s presence at its debut All‍ In show. Rhodes detailed‌ receiving a‍ 3 a.m. email from Mayer’s manager requesting tickets to the sold-out event, initially dismissing⁢ it as a “rib”-a wrestling⁣ term for a prank. “I just thought it was ⁢a ‌rib. A good wrestling rib,” Rhodes explained.

Upon leaving his‌ hotel room at 9 a.m., ⁣Rhodes was promptly questioned ‍about the ticket⁤ request.⁢ Despite his ⁤initial skepticism,he accommodated⁣ Mayer and his party, seating ‍them‌ in “middle of the aisle” seats to provide‌ privacy. Rhodes recalled briefly seeing Mayer during his match against Nick Aldis, calling it a “really fun get” and noting they took photos afterward. Mayer is known for his work in soft rock⁤ and ⁣blues, and past relationships with Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.
