Würzburg City Library in the Falkenhaus: Lending is possible again

From this Monday, May 18, books, magazines and other media can again be borrowed from the city library after the return was only possible until the end.

With over 500,000 visitors a year, the city library is the city’s most heavily used cultural institution, says Achim Könneke, culture officer of the city of Würzburg, on the occasion of the resumption of the loan in a press release.

The city library had been closed for nine weeks due to the official precautionary measures against Corona. The organization of the restart was a priority last week. The aim was to enable the library visit with the mandatory distance rules and to comply with the hygiene rules that are also required.

Entrance via Hahnenhof

Therefore, the entrance to the city library is now in the Hahnenhof. The previous entrance serves only as an exit and for the delivery of media to the return system.

The opening times change temporarily to Monday to Friday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 12 noon to 3 p.m. The number of visitors who can be in the city library at the same time is also limited.

Long queues are to be avoided, so the stay is limited to 30 minutes and a visit is only intended for returning and borrowing media. Visitors are asked not to come with the whole family if possible so that other visitors can use the library.

The reading café remains closed

Wearing a mouth-and-nose cover is compulsory for visitors aged six and over in the city library. Disinfectant is available at the entrance and exit.

The public toilets in the Falkenhaus cannot be used. The reading café remains closed. Daily and weekly newspapers cannot be offered either. Internet places, scanners, printers, copiers and the devices in the “Makerspace” are blocked. Workplaces and seats are not available in the entire library.

All active library cards are extended by the time of closure. All borrowed media were extended until June 13, so that not all of the approximately 50,000 media currently on loan are returned at once. Media from the district libraries can also be returned to the Falkenhaus. These will open later.

Anyone who has already purchased tickets for an event in the city library will be reimbursed the price.
