A week after his failure in Shenzhen, Belinda Bencic signed his first success of the 2020 season, dominating the Russian Daria Kasatkina (6-4 6-4).
Despite her inconsistency in service and the three breaks granted, Belinda Bencic spent a rather quiet afternoon in Adelaide. Ranked 68th in the world, Daria Kasatkina, quarter-finalist at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon in 2018, was in fact dominated by the Saint-Galloise.
This victory justifies Bencic’s choice to have opted at the last minute for the wild card offered by the Australian tournament, which will allow him to approach the Australian Open with, at least, a victory in his pocket. Next opponent: Julia Goerges or Priscilla Hon.
Golubic and Teichmann outside
In Adelaide, Viktorija Golubic (WTA 78) did not suffer the same fate as Belinda Bencic. The Zurich woman was indeed swept by the 15th world Sofia Kenin (0-6 4-6). No victory either for Jil Teichmann (WTA 67) on the side of Hobart. After having led 6-1 3-0, the left-hander suffered the law of Heather Watson (WTA 101), with a score of 6-1 4-6 4-6.
