Writer Jean-Claude Van Rijckeghem wins Thea Beckman prize for best historical youth book with “IJzerkop”

The Thea Beckman Prize is named after the Dutch writer Thea Beckman (1923-2004), who wrote numerous historical children’s books. “Crusade in jeans” is probably the most famous. The Thea Beckman Prize yields the winner 1,000 euros, the Jonge Beckman Prize 500 euros.

In addition to “IJzerkop”, Jean-Claude Van Rijckehem (57) also wrote the award-winning historical youth novels such as “Jonkvrouw” and “Galgenmeid”. He is also a film producer and screenwriter. He participated in the films “Accident in Moscou”, “Brasserie Romantiek” and “The best of Dorien B”, and the series “Amigos” and “A good year”.
