Writer and screenwriter Roman Ráž died

Roman Ráž was born in 1935 in Prague, but grew up more in Brno and Luhačovice. He studied art history and aesthetics at the Faculty of Arts in Brno, and did not complete his subsequent studies at FAMU. In his youth, he befriended Viola Fischerová, Pavel Švanda, Jiří Kuběna, Václav Havel and Milan Uhd.

In the years 1967–1971 he was the dramaturg of the Brno studio of Czechoslovak Television, but after signing the Declaration Two Thousand Words he was released by the Communists. Only after a few years did he start working again on television in Prague.

Ráž debuted as a screenplay for the television drama Invitation of the Righteous in 1968. He also wrote screenplays for the films Woman in a Cage, Narcissus House, In flagranti, Annoying Weekend, Death in a Circle and The Humor Seller.

He began as a novelist with the short story collection One Night in 1962. He also published prose Teacher of Bird Singing, Cognitive Signs, Death in a Chestnut House, Humor Seller, The Wandering Stones, Spa Adventures and many others.
