The fifth stage of the Tour between Gap and Privas was won by the Belgian Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma). No change in the general classification: the French Julian Alaphilippe retains the yellow jersey.
After the Alps, Provence. Today’s stage of the Tour, which linked Gap (Hautes-Alpes) to Privas (Ardèche), was won in the sprint by the Belgian Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma). He allowed his team to win two straight victories after Primoz Roglic’s victory on Tuesday at Orcières-Merlette The peloton remained together, without any real breakaway, throughout the stage.
The stage was marked by the minor fall of the American Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) and by several punctures for the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz or the Austrian Felix Grosschartner.
In the general classification, the French Julian Alaphilippe retains the yellow jersey. Frenchman Benoît Cosnefroy reinforced his polka-dot jersey by clearing the two difficulties of the day in the lead, two fourth category climbs.
This Thursday, the sixth stage, 191 km long, will go from Teil (Ardèche) to Mont-Aigoual (Gard) through the roads of Ardèche, Gard, Lozère and Hérault.
