‘Worrying doubling of infections in nursing homes’ | Inland

Verenso points to a doubling of the number of new Covid-19 infections in the past week. “We also see an increase in the number of patients who have died.”

In total, over thirteen thousand patients have been registered in nursing homes with (possibly) Covid-19 since the crisis. As of last Tuesday, 623 patients were added. 366 patients are suspected of having Covid-19; this has been determined with a corona test in 257 patients, the association reports. More than two thousand people have died in the nursing homes. Against three thousand patients managed to recover.

Testing not in order

Chairman Jacqueline de Groot can only conclude that the test policy is still not in order. “We see that the testing of both residents and staff in an outbreak in various regions is still difficult. That really has to change. Being able to test quickly in the event of an outbreak is extremely important, both for residents and staff who have had contact with the sick residents. ” She therefore argues for the retention of right of way rules for healthcare personnel at test streets.

“If we stick to the advice together, we can keep this virus out of nursing homes as much as possible. We do it together ”, emphasizes De Groot.
