The news was confirmed by senior gerontology consultant Robert Young, who also helped confirm Saturnino’s age as the world’s oldest man when he hit the Book in September 2021. At that time, the Spaniard was 112 years and 211 days old.

“Death came to him around eleven in the morning, shortly after breakfast, when he began to breathe heavily and after a few seconds went out like a candle,” his son-in-law Bernardo Marcos described the death of Garcia.

What is known about Garcia?

Garcia was born in León on February 11, 1909. He was married to Antonina Gutierrez, born in 1933, with whom they lived a long life, raising seven daughters. According to the memoirs of the man, he avoided being drafted into the army during the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1039, because he was short – 150 cm. At the same time, he opened his own business and was engaged in the manufacture of army shoes for soldiers. He excelled in his business and became a well-known craftsman in his area.

Garcia was very fond of football and was always a fan of the team from Leon “Cultural Leones”, and was also a co-founder of the local team “Puente Castro”.

The man had 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren at the time of his death. When asked what the secret of his longevity was, Garcia said that he lived a “quiet life, offending no one.”

Earlier it was reported that in 2018 the oldest man on the planet was a Japanese Masazo Nonaka, who entered the Guinness Book of Records at the age of 112 years and 259 days.

And in 2019 the oldest person in the world became a resident of Japan Kane Tanaka from the city of Fukuoka, who was 119 years old. The favorite pastime of the centenarian was solving puzzles.
