–A fire broke out on the 21st (local time) at the factory of Serum Institute (SII) in India, the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer, reported by foreign media such as Reuters and Indian media such as NDTV.
On this day, a fire occurred in a new facility in the SII plant complex in western Pune.
Reuters reported that a local broadcast video showed black smoke spewing out over the gray building where the fire had been set.
SII is producing AstraZeneca-Oxford University Corona 19 vaccine in India.
SII has already produced 50 million doses and plans to increase its production to 100 million doses per month by March.
Reuters, citing sources, said that the fire on the day would not affect the current COVID-19 vaccine production.
The company said several floors were lost in the fire, but there was no loss of life or serious injuries due to the fire.
The quantity produced by SII is being supplied to neighboring countries such as India, Bangladesh and Nepal, which began inoculation on the 16th.
In addition to the AstraZeneca vaccine, SII plans to produce Novavex vaccine.
