World Dog Day: Eight questions to Virginia Ernst – Pets Talks

Dog in bed – yes or no? Who is in charge at home? Singer Virginia Ernst in the “Today” dog talk about her teddy. Also included: the GoPro.

Teddy always falls asleep at my concerts … I don’t know if that’s positive or negative

said Virginia Ernst in the “Today” dog talk.

Today 10.10. is World Dog Day. “Today’s animal” boss Marina Providakis has asked singer-songwriter Virginia Ernst for dog talk. Anyone who knows the singer knows that the 28-year-old is only available in a pack of three with wife Dorothea and the 13-month-old four-legged friend Teddy. Between her new single “I Saw An Angel” and travel stress released at the end of September (2019), the dog mom invited us to the garden.

We asked Virginia Ernst eight questions about her beloved four-legged friend Teddy. With it on the back of Teddy – the GoPro.

1How did you come up with the name Ted?

We wanted a simple name. Dora meant Ted. I’m an absolute Ed Sheeran fan. There are so many Eddy, so we came up with Teddy. But he listens to everything – little bear, little bear, teddy bear, bear.

2How did you get the dog?

I grew up with two dogs. Dora didn’t and wanted to have one. She raved about a dog all the time and showed me dog photos. I spontaneously told my hairdresser about this when I had a haircut, á la “Yes, we’ll think about it anyway”. She helps with the placement of dogs. Then Dora and I drove to the rescue center. I saw him and immediately knew he was serious, a teddy serious.

3Who is in charge of you – dog or human?

He knows that we, Dora and I, are the masters. But I am the stricter. Dora is the dearest. He is also bitchy now and then and pouts when something doesn’t suit him.

4Where did you get teddy from

We got it from a rescue center in Austria. He was one of ten puppies. Teddy was the largest of them and was still gray at the time.

5Moments only known as a dog owner?

We drove to a mountain hotel when Teddy was still young. Dora and I had a meeting there. Teddy is usually with us on the training line. Suddenly the hotel manager came in when we only noticed that Teddy was no longer there. The manager brought it to us and just got excited. I had an appearance there just before. She didn’t recognize me. I sat there with sunglasses and a hood – then she cleaned up Dora, didn’t even let her finish. When I paid, I went to the manager and took off my hood and glasses. I introduced myself and apologized for Teddy. Then everything was suddenly “no longer a problem”. She was immediately extremely friendly. Crazy what that means. That was the only situation where he briefly put us in an uncomfortable situation because he was gone. Because he is just so curious .

And an internally funny situation: We drove in the car with him at Christmas. He was up there with us. He had eaten chicken before and started licking his nose. He was sick. We just got the new car. I called, “not in the car”. Teddy puked on the gear stick. Dora made it go away. She’s very pain-free. I can’t do it at all. I am extremely disgusted when someone vomits. That was already as a child so.

In general:The first thing I do when I go anywhere with Teddy is to see where another dog is and where we can walk around without stress. Or for example in the shopping center – a quiet moment and suddenly the dog starts barking. So out of the blue because he sees something and you can’t tame him right away. Then the know-it-alls come with tips. “You are holding the leash wrong” or “you are not in control of your dog.” I love them.

6Dog in bed? On the sofa

Bed and sofa were always an absolute no-go. That bed is still there. But he made it from Dora that he can go on the sofa. Then Teddy was a baby. Since then he has always been lying in the same place. Now that he’s taller, he’s taking up the whole couch. He always makes a somersault on Dora’s lap. For example, if she is sitting on the floor with her legs frightened, he turns a head somersault into her lap. He needs love and affection.

7Like the Herr? L, so the Gscherr? L?

It is optically a pretty boy and he knows how to wrap people around the finger. There he is just like Dora – she is also beautiful. He is very loving in character, we are both. He’s a fussy eater, and he certainly doesn’t have that from me. He certainly got the whining, pouting and attention from me. I can do that too.

8Life without a dog is …

I can’t imagine because I’ve lived with dogs all my life. At 18 I thought “never again”. because it’s always tiring to go down, especially in the city. But life without a dog is impossible – he is my best friend. I take it with me everywhere. In my business you are constantly on the move, under constant pressure. Teddy is always there. He even falls asleep at concerts – either backstage or with Dora in front of the stage. My music makes him fall asleep, I don’t know if that’s positive or negative. (Virginia laughs) I can no longer imagine life without a dog. It brings so much energy into the booth.
