Two women feared arrested after being shown shirtless during the World Cup final match in Qatar have returned home safely. Numerous US media outlets reported on December 20, 2022.
The US media “TMZ” (WEB version) published an article entitled “Topless fan avoids arrest in Qatar… returns home unharmed”.
“I saw it twice because the naked woman was outdated.”
Media said the women in Qatar who stripped of their coats left the country unharmed and avoided arrest even as their bold celebrations angered many in the conservative country. Both updated their SNS on the 20th and explained that they were safely back in Japan.
The pair, who are believed to be Argentina fans, erupted with Argentine cheering in the stands after Argentina won the World Cup final against France on 18 December. The two people’s appearance was broadcast on television relay and Twitter attracted attention as a “broadcast incident”.
World Cup host city Qatar is an Islamic state which bans excessive exposure and several foreign media have hinted at the possibility of being arrested by local police immediately after the final. TMZ said in an article that the two women could go to jail for showing too much skin.
In the World Cup final, Argentina defeated France on penalties to win the tournament for the third time in 36 years.
