In the statement made by AFAD, it was reported that the search and rescue works in Elazığ and Malatya have been completed and the improvement works are continuing.
AFAD said, “In Elazığ Sivrice, improvement efforts carried out under the coordination of AFAD are continuing at full speed in order to reduce the effects of the 6.8 earthquake that occurred on January 24, 2020 at 20.55 and to restore the lives of our citizens living in the region.
Search and rescue efforts, in which 45 people were rescued, were completed by reaching our citizens, who were considered to be the last people under the wreckage. In the last case, the number of people who died in the earthquake area increased to 41. After the earthquake, 1,523 of 1,607 citizens who were admitted to hospitals were discharged and treatment of 84 citizens continues.
While 25,393 tents were delivered to the region as part of the improvement works carried out; 50,960 hot meals, 22,470 breakfasts and 7,000 soups were distributed to citizens affected by the earthquake. So far, 22 earthquakes with more than 4 magnitude have occurred and the total number of aftershocks is 1,077 ”.

Continuing the statement made by AFAD, “AFAD Presidency sent a total of TL 6 million to the region, including TL 3 million to the Elazığ Governorate, and TL 3 million to the Governorate of Malatya. In addition, as a result of the Elazig and Malatya Aid Campaign, which continued with the intense interest of our saint nation, a total of 56 million 51 thousand 960 TL was collected, including 28 million 818 thousand 800 TL in the bank accounts, 27 million 233 thousand 160 TL in the SMS system ”.
“SEARCH AND RESCUE WORKS COMPLETED”
The statement stated that the search and rescue works have been completed in the last wreckage in Elazig city center include the following statements;
* 5,093 personnel, 635 vehicles and 22 search dogs were dispatched to the region for studies coordinated by AFAD. A total of 800 NGO staff also participate in the work.
* 311 truckloads of supplies were delivered to the region under the coordination of AFAD Presidency. A total of 25 thousand 393 family tents, 400 general purpose tents, 26 thousand 62 beds, 66 thousand 751 blankets, 4 thousand 312 heaters and 6 thousand 436 food parcels were shipped to the region.
* 530 technical personnel and 5 vehicles work in damage assessment works. It has been determined that 279 of 12 thousand 829 buildings investigated in Elazığ, Malatya, Diyarbakır, Adıyaman and Kahramanmaraş have been destroyed, 3 thousand 77 of them have been seriously damaged, 214 of them have medium and 4 thousand 688 have been damaged.
* In the studies in which 50 buildings to be demolished are determined, 4 thousand 521 buildings were found to be undamaged. IHA
