It’s the second strike notice filed by the unions of the Rouen University Hospital (Seine-Maritime) since the opening of the new building, Le Robec, on November 3, 2020. Thursday March 18, 2021, the CGT, CFTC, CFDT, FO, Unsa, Sud unions call on the agents to strike to denounce the working conditions in this new building . This follows in particular the right of withdrawal carried out by caregivers on November 4, 2020.
“The agents are at their end”
The grouping of 33 operating theaters and nearly 460 agents in this four-storey building is obviously not unanimous. “There is a lack of staff, the agents are exhausted, the building is not suitable”, lists Guillaume Herlin of the South union.
Lack of staff, lack of space to store equipment, versatility between blocks… The list of grievances is long. While management points to an organizational problem, the unions are asking for additional staff.
A lack of staff
“Instead of having five transversal nurses, there is only one. And this is just one example, plague Guillaume Herlin. Even though we know that the CHU is facing a shortage of anesthetist nurses and operating theaters, we are asking for the hiring of logisticians and nursing assistants while we wait to find or train them. “
The unions assure that the agents cannot take their rest and that the number of overtime “explodes”. “It’s been five months, we don’t know what to do. We met with the deputy Hubert Wulfranc to alert on the situation. The latter wrote to the Minister of Health, recalls Guillaume Herlin. But here we have no other choice but to file a strike notice. “
The management of the CHU never comments on union movements, as soon as a strike notice is filed. But after the right of withdrawal in November 2020, she assured to have “exchanged with professionals on their concerns related to the handling of premises and storage of equipment” and promised “a short-term action plan”.
