Pacific Women’s Tennis Duo Advances to ITA Regional Round of 16
BERKELEY, CA – The University of the Pacific Women’s Tennis team concluded competition at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships this week, highlighted by a strong showing from doubles pair Maggie Hoe and Leyanne Hirota, who reached the round of 16. The tournament,hosted at California,saw several Tigers compete in both singles and doubles play.
The success of Hoe and Hirota builds on a promising fall season for the program, demonstrating growth and competitive spirit against a challenging field of opponents. Reaching the round of 16 in a regional tournament of this caliber signifies a step forward for Pacific Women’s Tennis, providing valuable experience and momentum as they prepare for the spring season.
Hoe and Hirota began thier doubles run with a victory over Portland State before facing a tough challenge in Stanford, ultimately falling in the round of 32. In singles competition, Milena Maiorova achieved a notable win over Saint Mary’s in the round of 64, advancing to the round of 32 before being eliminated. Rayna Sugai and Maiorova lost their opening doubles match to Oregon.
Despite early exits in the singles bracket, Ung and Sugai demonstrated resilience by reaching the round of 16 in the qualifying bracket before the tournament’s suspension.the Tigers will next travel to Northridge in November for the CSUN Invitational to complete their fall schedule.
