JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida Ospreys women’s soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles Thursday night at Hodges Stadium. The loss drops the Ospreys to 5-8-2 overall and 3-3 in ASUN Conference play.
Florida Gulf Coast capitalized on two free kick opportunities, scoring in the 32nd and 37th minutes to establish a lead North Florida was unable to overcome. The result impacts the Ospreys’ positioning in the ASUN standings as they continue their pursuit of a playoff berth.
Allison Souers, a sophomore forward, registered the first shot on goal for North Florida in the fifth minute. Later in the first half,a corner kick from senior midfielder Chloe Lynch found sophomore midfielder Sarah Frazer,but her attempt went wide. The Ospreys finished the first half wiht six total shots, three on target.
North Florida maintained an aggressive offensive presence in the second half, recording three shots within the 50th minute. Souers led the Ospreys with three shots and one shot on goal, while redshirt junior forward Isabella Pontieri added three shots with two on target.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Chrissa avery recorded four saves, all in the second half. A total of 22 Ospreys saw action, with sophomore defender Julia Cosgrove and junior midfielder Zoe Looker playing the full 90 minutes.
The Ospreys will recognize five student-athletes on Senior Day when they host Stetson at Hodges Stadium on Sunday, oct. 12, at 1 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
