Albion Women’s Golf Claims Victory at Lourdes Invitational
OTTAWA LAKE, Mich. – The Albion College women’s golf team secured a tournament win at the Lourdes gray Wolves Invitational on Monday, besting a field of 15 teams with a total score of 333 strokes – one stroke ahead of runner-up UM-Dearborn. The victory highlights the program’s early-season momentum and establishes Albion as a competitive force in the region.
The Britons’ success at the traditionally challenging Legacy Golf Club, designed by arthur Hills, underscores their ability to perform under pressure and navigate demanding course conditions. This win is particularly significant as it provides a confidence boost heading into the remainder of the fall season and demonstrates the team’s potential for continued success.
Leading the charge for Albion were Anna Schaibly and Marissa Genske,both carding impressive rounds of 81 to tie for sixth place overall. Aubrie Schaibly wasn’t far behind, finishing tied for 11th with an 83, while Taylore Wilson secured a top-20 finish with a score of 88. Payton LaRowe completed the Albion lineup, contributing a 91 to the team total.
Legacy Golf Club presented a unique challenge with its five lakes, including a distinctive island green on the eighth hole, which all five Albion golfers successfully navigated, reaching the putting surface. Genske’s strong performance throughout the tournament earned her a place on the all-tournament team.
Albion will continue its fall schedule at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Invitational, scheduled for saturday and Sunday, September 13-14, at Ironwood Golf Course in normal, Ill.
