USC Upstate Adds Australian Guard Kinley Paterson to Women’s Basketball Program
USC upstate has announced the addition of Kinley Paterson, a 5-7 freshman guard from Perth, Western Australia, to its women’s basketball roster. Paterson brings a wealth of experience from her time with the Cockburn Cougars, competing at multiple levels, including the Australian National Basketball League One club.
During the 2025 NBL One season, Paterson appeared in 12 games for the Cockburn Cougars, averaging 3.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 13.1 minutes per game. She demonstrated efficient shooting, making 51.6% of her field goal attempts (16-of-31), 8.3% from three-point range (1-of-12), and 42.9% from the free-throw line (6-of-14).her contributions included 30 total rebounds (12 offensive, 18 defensive), 16 assists, 13 steals, and one block.
Paterson’s NBL one career with the Cougars began in 2022. In 2024, she played in 15 games, averaging 3.5 points and 1.9 rebounds. The 2023 season saw her play a key role in the Cougars’ NBL One West Championship, appearing in 20 games and averaging 3.6 points and 1.9 rebounds. In 2022, she participated in 14 games, contributing 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per contest.
Prior to her NBL One experience, Paterson excelled at the junior level. With the Cockburn cougars U18 team, she posted extraordinary averages of 19.0 points,8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 4.0 steals, and 1.0 block per game. Her standout performances were recognized with back-to-back Finals MVP awards for the U16 and U18 Cockburn Cougars clubs. In 2023, she was also honored with the Cockburn Cougars MIP Award.
On the AAU circuit, paterson competed for AUSA Hoops, where she averaged 8.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.1 steals over an average of 18.0 minutes per game.
