Women train at the fire brigade

More than 20 players from the SV Werder Bremen women’s Bundesliga team have completed special training with the fire brigade – and learned a lot.

Unusual training: The Werder women completed a special unit at the Bremen fire brigade – and learned what fire brigade applicants have to do in the aptitude test.

The footballers from Werder Bremen had to cope with three stations: the respiratory protection exercise course, climbing the turntable ladder and elements from the sports test of the fire brigade. “The athletes did extremely well and certainly had special experiences,” says a press release from the fire brigade.

Various disciplines for fire chief candidates

All training content is part of the so-called aptitude assessment procedure for prospective fire chief candidates. In addition to a theoretical part, this recruitment test consists of different sporting disciplines, according to the fire brigade. These include 200-meter swimming, distance diving, push-ups, balance tests, speed, flexibility and strength exercises, as well as 400-meter and 3,000-meter runs.

In addition, the applicants must climb a turntable ladder in the open air, go through the respiratory protection route and rescue a 75-kilo person in the form of a doll.
