“Women in Cybersecurity” organization honors Florida International University with an award

The cybersecurity It is gaining ground daily as one of the most needed disciplines in the world. It is the practice of protecting equipment, networks, software applications, systems, and data from those who might steal or compromise it.

With the advancement of technology, more and more of our lives is in the virtual world, and these types of attacks become more relevant issues. According to the publication Forbesin 2022, to a large extent, the problems in the global distribution chain were related to cyber attacks.

With so much relevance in the matter, logically opportunities arise. According to the calculation of Cybercrime Magazineby 2025 the cyber crimes They are going to cost the world 10.5 trillion dollars, opening up the possibilities of a huge industry that would generate 3.5 million job offers by the middle of the decade.

That is why more and more companies, organizations and universities are focusing on this new branch of technology. The non-profit organization Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), founded in 2012 by Ambareen Sirajfrom Tennessee Tech Universitygrants scholarships, makes links and trains women in different branches of the cybersecurity. It thus serves as support and at the same time as a labor network, in search of equality of gender in this discipline.

Said organization has become one of the most relevant in the matter, among other things because since its inception it has focused on ensuring that this new sub-industry of technology is not only reserved for men, but that from its inception it is an industry diverse.

For this work to be successful, coordination with universities is essential. Therefore, the WiCyS encourages universities to create their own cybersecurity groups associated with the organization. The Florida International University (FIU for its acronym in English) is one of those that has created its own student organization, and given its effort during the year, it has just been recognized by the WiCyS as the student organization of the year.

Activities are focused on promote studies in cybersecurity in between women, and retain the interest of this community in this field of study. the work of FIU In this regard, it has stood out above the rest of the universities.

But it’s not the first time FIU excels at this. Last year, the university received a prize of 2 million dollars from the organization Cyber Florida to finance four education projects in cybersecurity and information technology, preparing them for the jobs of today and the future.
