When Karaoke Night Gets a Blink-182 Twist: Singer Tom DeLonge Makes a Surprise Appearance
Palm Springs, California, became the unlikely stage for a real-life rock and roll moment when Monica Gill, a Blink-182 enthusiast, chose “All the Small Things” for her karaoke performance. Unbeknownst to her, the song’s co-writer and lead singer, Tom DeLonge, was in the audience, turning her fun night into an unforgettable experience.
The Performance That Caught DeLonge’s Eye
Kyle, known as @WebsiteLandlord on TikTok, captured the scene and shared it with the world. The video shows Ms. Gill, sporting a bikini T-shirt, passionately singing the iconic song. As she hit the high notes and even added some “screamo stuff,” the camera panned to Mr. DeLonge, who was seen nodding his head and, at one point, bursting into laughter.
Did you know?
Blink-182’s “All the Small Things” was a massive hit, reaching number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2000 and becoming one of their signature songs.
according to Kyle, ms. Gill was wholly unaware of Mr. DeLonge’s presence. She had no idea the guy who wrote that song was sitting right there. I told her and her friends and they lost their minds,
he wrote in the video’s caption.
Ms. Gill explained that the karaoke outing was part of a reunion trip with her college friends: Mary O’Donohue, Michaela McDermott, Shelley Glynn, and Julie shearer. We love shenanigans,
Ms. Gill said, we’re just fun-loving people, we love life and we love being together. So we were having a great time.
The group had only been at the bar for about 15 minutes when their song came on. Ms. Gill, a self-proclaimed non-singer, decided to compensate with enthusiasm. Ninety-nine percent of the things that I do, I do for my own entertainment,
she stated. So I started singing to them, and then I was like, I need to throw some screamo stuff in here. Why not?
The Big Reveal and a Starstruck encounter
Kyle noticed that Ms. Gill’s attention was focused on her friends during the performance, leading him to believe she was unaware of Mr. DeLonge’s presence. I noticed that she started singing in a big way too, but I saw that her eyes were looking at her friends the whole time,
Kyle recounted. I had a feeling she didn’t really know, as none of her friends were looking over at Tom DeLonge or anything. So I was like, I think I should probably tell them.
After Kyle revealed the surprise, Ms. Gill and her friends approached mr. DeLonge. I kind of blacked out a little bit because I was so starstruck,
Ms. Gill admitted. I just remember saying to him, ‘I didn’t know you were here. I wouldn’t have made a mockery out of your song.’
Pro Tip:
Always be mindful of your surroundings! You never know who might be watching your karaoke performance.
She jokingly added, I think I scared him a little bit, but that’s OK.
Ms. Gill further explained her thought process: I said to him, ‘I really wanted it to have a lot of angst in it.’ And he was like, ‘OK?’ I feel like Tom was equal parts bewildered, confused and amused.

Following the initial video’s success, Kyle shared another clip of Ms. Gill singing, Late night, come home,
followed by a passionate, Work sucks!
This time, Mr. DeLonge’s reaction was a quizzical expression.
