After the fire on a chipboard at the Berlin Reichstag building, the police arrested a suspect on suspicion of arson.
A police spokesman said the woman had turned herself in on Monday. A political motive is not recognizable, it will be determined further. At first, there was no further information on the suspect, who is said to come from the federal territory. An investigating judge will now check whether she receives a placement order, the police also said.
Operations in the Bundestag continued as normal. Nothing was known of impairments, as it was said in the press office.
A chipboard had burned to the building on the night of Monday. Around 0:30 a.m., a small area of chipboard caught fire in a window on the east side of the building, as a fire department spokesman said in the morning. The fire was extinguished before the fire brigade arrived.
According to the spokesman, the mission, to which 50 rescue workers were initially called, ended after around 30 minutes. Nobody got hurt.

According to police, a fire accelerator was used for the fire. Since the Reichstag building is under special protection, more firefighters were called in than was ultimately necessary, the fire department said.
