The 26-year-old woman, who is a Muslim, was arrested in 2020 and charged with blasphemy after posting the post, which among other things contained cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
In addition to being sentenced to death, the woman was also sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Blasphemy is a very sensitive issue in the deeply conservative Muslim Pakistan. Expressing oneself in a way that is perceived as derogatory about Islam or the Prophet Muhammad can lead to the death penalty. There have also been several cases of lynching of people who have been accused or suspected of blasphemy.
