A heated dispute between a couple involving a moving vehicle and alcohol nearly turned deadly in a Brooklyn neighborhood Friday night, city officials said.
The argument took place around 5:30 pm in Sheepshead Bay between the 34-year-old driver and a 41-year-old woman standing outside the car while the passenger door was open, police said.
Initially driving at a slow speed, authorities said the woman held on to the open door “in an attempt to prevent the operator from driving away.”
As the driver sped up, the woman allegedly fell into the road where she was struck by the rear tire of the truck.
Paramedics responding to the scene on Avenue X transported the woman to a nearby hospital where she was last listed in critical condition, authorities said.
The driver, Myroslav Iakymovych, 34, was arrested on charges of assault, reckless endangerment and driving while intoxicated, among other charges.
