Woman in Georgia admits to contracting monkeypox through money, is it really possible?

A woman in Georgia who works at a gas station admits she contracted monkeypox through money.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — A Georgian citizen, Camille Seaton, claimed to have recovered from monkeypox, but was still traumatized by leaving the house. He also told how he first contracted monkeypox.

His first symptoms were on July 11, 2022, when he saw some bumps forming on his face and thought they were pimples, then he ignored them.

“But that night, everything turned white. I knew something was going on,” Seaton said PeopleMonday (8/8/2022).

After the lumps appeared quickly and more and more on his face, Seaton decided to go to the hospital on July 16, 2022 for a laboratory check. The results came out a few days later, and he was infected with monkeypox.

Seaton became one of the first cases in his country. The bumps he thought were pimples, turned out to be monkeypox lesions. He said he believed he contracted the virus because he was constantly holding money at the gas station where he worked.

“I touched a lot of money. The law requiring masks has been lifted, so we don’t wear masks. I don’t wear gloves. I wasn’t careful, I touched my face and body, I transferred a lot of germs unknowingly,” he said. 20 year old woman.

Monkeypox is actually transmitted through skin-to-skin contact. According to infectious disease specialist at Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, Dr. Linda Yancey, objects or items are very likely to be a place of transmission of the virus. Experts say monkeypox can also be spread through droplets (droplet) great breathing.

“It is very possible that monkeypox is transmitted through items such as money, because the virus can persist for days in the environment,” said Dr Yancey.

In fact, one of the cases in the US was a woman who was infected through bed sheets. She cleans Airbnb rooms at work.

Holding important items such as money, doorknobs, and shopping carts, has the potential to make people infected with the monkeypox virus. According to Dr. Yancey, monkeypox is a sibling of smallpox (smallpox).

Seaton said he knew nothing about monkeypox until he caught it. Symptoms improve rapidly while isolating at home. As the lesions appeared, he developed fever, rash, headache, fatigue, joint pain, and muscle aches.

“It was uncomfortable. I cleaned everything, like washing my hands every 15 minutes. The lesions on my face were the first to appear and they stayed on my face for a week and a half,” Seaton said.

As his face began to heal, lesions began to appear on Seaton’s body. Most of the lesions appear on the hands, making it difficult for him to do anything with his hands.

“I can’t hold my phone. I can’t do anything at home. I can’t even fold my clothes. It’s very sad,” she said.
