Woman goes on a hike and is found dead in the mountains

The woman’s family had reported her missing last weekendb and her body was found near a mountain trail in southern California Saturday, police say.

Narineh Avakian, 37-year-old resident of the city of Glendale was discovered near Mount Waterman Trailsaid the Police Department of Glendale in a press release.

Investigations indicate that no signs of homicide have been found, although the case remains open.

Family members first contacted the police on Monday, March 8, informing authorities that Avakian left his home the day before around noon and had said he was going on a day trip. He did not say where he was going, a police press release said.

“According to the family, it is common for Narineh to go hiking with groups and on solo trips, although lately she has been going alone,” the statement said.

On Thursday, March 11, the car of Avakian was found on the Angeles Crest Highway, the area had recently been affected by winter storms.

After finding her vehicle, authorities deployed to the area to search for her. Police said they had reinforcements from 17 counties across the state to search for them.
