The Mayor of Viana do Castelo said, on Wednesday, that the municipality has integrated in its staff, January 1, 207 workers who moved from the Ministry of Education under the decentralization of skills in the area of education.

Friar Bartolomeu dos Mártires, said that, in addition to the integration of non-teaching staff, the municipality “hired 15 new workers to comply with the legal ratios in the school clusters of the county ”.
“The fact that we have entered decentralization this year will have a transfer of the state budget of 6.2 million euros for the new tasks and functions we have decided to take on,” said the socialist mayor.
José Maria Costa stressed the “importance” of decentralization of competences in the area of education, ensuring that, in the municipality, the objective “is not to do like the Ministry of Education, to do even better”.
He admitted that this was a “complex process, with some difficulties”, adding that the municipal council of Education is the “ideal” structure to conduct the “challenge launched by the Government”.
“It is a space for proximity, concertation and articulation of strategies, identification of problems and improving them more quickly, in accordance with the education objectives we want for our students,” he said.
Attending that ceremony, Education Minister Tiago Brandão Rodrigues said that “in 2020 more than 100 municipalities agreed to take up competences in the area of education”, noting that the dispatch with the list of workers was published in Diário da República on Tuesday. with a public employment bond that perform functions in the groupings of schools and ungrouped schools of the public school network of the Ministry of Education and that transit to the staff map of the municipalities ”.

José Maria Costa added that “by the end of this month, proposals will be opened for the public tender for the requalification of the basic and secondary school of Monte da Ola, worth € 1.9 million.”
According to the socialist mayor, “the project to remodel the basic and secondary school Pintor José de Brito is already being prepared”
“We would like the project to be ready by the end of the year so we can include it in the upcoming reprogramming of Northern 2020 funds that we would also like to include in vocational schools,” he said.
