Sunday afternoon, a 60-year-old woman died while participating in a Queensland pub in northeastern Australia, at a competition for the biggest cake eater. She had just swallowed a lamington, these Australian cakes made of a sponge cake coated with
chocolate and sprinkled with coconut, when she felt unwell, local media said.

An ambulance was called and the victim was taken to a hospital in the coastal town of Hervey Bay, where she died, according to the ABC chain. She was entered in the Biggest Lump and Meat Pie Contest, organized annually by the Beach House Hotel on Australia Day, National Day.

In a message posted on Facebook, the staff and management of the establishment offer “sincere condolences” to the friends and family of the deceased.
