NEW YORK – A 30-year-old Brooklyn woman faces murder and attempted murder charges for allegedly driving on a sidewalk and hitting two pedestrians, one of them a 70-year-old woman who died of her injuries, police said. Wednesday.
Layla Adredini was driving a white 2003 Ford Explorer near the streets Thomas Boyland and Pacific, around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 24, when he suddenly stepped onto the sidewalk, police said. At that time he would have run over Brenda Whidbee, 70, and a man in his 50s.
The man was no longer at the scene when police arrived, but they found Whidbee on the sidewalk with severe trauma to his body. She was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital.
Adredini allegedly fled to a building in Pacific Street after the accident, but good Samaritans kept her there until the police arrived and detained her.
The lawyer’s information to her was not immediately clear, nor was it why Adredini stepped onto the sidewalk. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
