Wolff does not rule out Hamilton’s switch to Red Bull: “ saw crazier things happen ”

The contract of Lewis Hamilton Bee Mercedes has been the subject of a lot of rumors for a while. The six-time world champion would not have come out with his team yet. Former team owner Eddie Jordan claimed last week that Hamilton should make the switch to Red Bull to become the teammate of Max Verstappen to become. That this is really going to happen seemed and seems very unlikely, but Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff now says he does not rule out this possibility.

When Red Bull team boss Christian Horner heard Jordan’s statements, he didn’t take the story too seriously. “I wonder what Eddie has been drinking lately,” he said with a wink. “From the fans’ perspective, Jordan is absolutely right, but I haven’t heard from Lewis recently. I think he will just stay where he is.”

Wolff, however, insisted that he still needs to sit down with Hamilton to discuss the Brit’s contract extension. “Never say, never,” Wolff said grandprix.com when asked what he thought of Jordan’s statements. “I’ve seen crazier things happen in my life.”

Although Wolff does not rule out the switch, he does say it would be a choice he would not understand from Hamilton. “I don’t quite understand why Lewis would make that choice. He has a very strong personal connection with the Mercedes brand and the team he helped create. At the moment we give him the best car and we have mutual trust in each other, there are still successful times ahead. I don’t believe that move would be rationally comprehensible to him, ” said Wolff.
