Wolfenbuettel. At the end of September, the graduates of the Gymnasium im Schloss (GiS) organized a day of sports and games for the pupils of the Karlstrasse elementary school. This offer is the result of the GiS seminar “Is participation bad for you?” state, as announced Thursday by the district of Wolfenbüttel.



The approximately 200 elementary school children took part in a “sports game event” at Meesche Stadium, organized by three high school graduates Lena Senking, Kevin Bursie and Sophie Hajok. Football, running and dodgeball matches were also scheduled from 8:30 to 13:00, as well as sack races, a balancing parkour and a bouncy castle.

As part of the seminar with the teacher Sascha Poser, the three young people had the idea for the project, which they created in collaboration with the district youth assistance service, the sports club “MTV Wolfenbüttel” and the sports association. state of Lower Saxony. The topic has been going on for ten years in partnership with the district’s youth care district, she said. The district meetings of the district have also been involved in the past two years. The young people of the GiS developed several project ideas in small groups to realize them in the second part of the thematic seminar in the district. This year the “Sports Festival for Karlstrasse Primary School” project was the start of the series of projects.

Another 35 high school graduates are said to have contributed to the creation of the individual gaming stations, some of whom played together and took care of the set-up and dismantling. The GiS school medical team was also on duty to treat minor injuries. “After the long period of Corona and in the current difficult situation, we just want to give the children a nice day and make them forget what bothers them”, explained the organizers.

“I haven’t seen such happy children in a long time,” said the director of the Karlsstraße primary school, Britta Siebert, praising the commitment of the young organizers. She was particularly touched by the idea of ​​doing something good for children in these difficult times by giving them some joy. Those who, as young people, felt that due to the closure of clubs, associations, cancellations of events and festivals “in reality it had to put more into the Corona period in an important development phase, they did not think first of themselves, but of others” . “, Siebert says.” It’s something very special and it shows that we don’t have to worry about the future at all as far as humanity is concerned. ”
