MEXICO CITY. From January to date, 93 percent of the people hospitalized by Covid-19 and 95.5 percent of those who have died did not have a vaccine against this disease, highlighted the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell.
The federal official stressed from the National Palace that the effectiveness of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 is demonstrated in reducing mortality from this virus.

In the case of people who are hospitalized, he explained that 4 percent have a dose of the immunizer, while 3 percent already have the complete scheme.
Regarding people who have lost their lives since last January, López-Gatell reported that only 2.5 percent had a vaccine and 2 percent had a complete schedule.
He clarified that the deaths of people with one or two doses of vaccines against Covid-19 are due to suffering from some comorbidity or some effect on their health, which complicated the situation.
Faced with this situation, the undersecretary called on the public to apply the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and stressed that at the moment doses have been supplied to 54 million 872 thousand 594 people, of which 26 million 629 thousand 517 already have the scheme full.
López-Gatell also highlighted that for the second consecutive week Mexico registers a reduction in Covid-19 cases compared to the previous week, so if the trend continues, there will be a decrease in the third wave of the pandemic.
There are multiple indicators that show the reduction in mortality. In Sinaloa we have 3 weeks of reduction of the epidemic, so that at the national level it is the second consecutive that we opened with a reduction in cases compared to the previous week. When the trend continues, we will see the decline of the third wave and we will attribute this to vaccination ”, he commented.
For his part, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reiterated the call to citizens to be immunized, as it has been proven that the drug saves lives.
“To face the pandemic, the best thing is the vaccine. If you are vaccinated there is protection. Most of those hospitalized were not vaccinated, “said the president.
