Since Wednesday evening, his commune, located south of Rennes, has however been classified by the authorities as an “active circulation zone of the virus”. It all started with the confirmation of a first case in the morning, a teacher practicing at the public elementary school of Vert Buisson. The authorities immediately decided to close the school, the canteen, the after-school center and a nearby private primary school.

In the evening, nine new cases of infection were confirmed, fellow teachers and one close to the first case. “They are not hospitalized and have been placed in solitary confinement at their home but their state of health does not cause concern”, assured this Thursday morning Stéphane Mulliez, director of the Brittany Regional Health Agency. The appearance of these ten grouped cases forced the prefecture to consider the town of Bruz like a cluster, a first in Ille-et-Vilaine.

Over 5,000 students deprived of school for 14 days

As a result, all schools in the town, with the exception of the Ker Lann campus, were closed, forcing 5,523 students to stay at home until March 25. “But the town of Bruz has not been put under cover and life, especially economic, continues,” said the prefect of Ille-et-Vilaine Michèle Kirry. All the nurseries, places of worship, the Expo Park, the swimming pool, the cinema and the sports arenas of the town were however closed “to try to curb the spread of the virus,” added the prefect, adding that the outfit municipal elections March 15 and 22 was not threatened.

Across the entire Brittany region, 104 cases of infection have so far been detected, the vast majority in Morbihan. The death of a second person, a 94-year-old woman, has also been confirmed by authorities in the department.
