With psychological warfare, Russia is trying to break the will of Ukrainians to resist, Slaidiņš states

NBS captain, National Guard staff captain Jānis Slaidiņš examines Russia’s propaganda war tactics as an expert in the TV24 program.

About the enemy army
According to J. Slaidiņš, Russia is fighting a war with bare asses, because the army has been robbed, as evidenced by the announced actions to collect socks and underpants to support the soldiers. But in no way do I want to belittle or underestimate the combat capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces. Because, as you can see, they have conquered large enough territories of Ukraine.

About how to stun the Russian people
One thing we see is official Russian propaganda starting from the Kremlin, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Russian Army. This is what we and the citizens of the Russian Federation face on a daily basis. And we see that this propaganda has been very successful. A cult of Putin has emerged. And here you have to quote Goebbels, the propaganda minister of the German Reich: “Give me the media, and I will turn any nation into a herd of rams!” It is the visible side explored by the NBS captain.

They are trying to tell Ukrainians that black is white
The other is the invisible part. Russia, along with direct military aggression, also practices psychological and information warfare operations, where they are very powerful. There, Russia has invested enough funds and accumulated a lot of experience, already starting the conflict in Ukraine in 2014. This well-organized, well-managed, well-balanced system is difficult to trace…

It has done a lot to achieve Russia’s goals in Ukraine, consistently working, concludes J. Slaidinš and explains: the headquarters is located in Moscow, which is subordinated to the PSAJOB units of all Russian military regions. It fulfills the tasks of both the Federal Security Service and the Main Intelligence Directorate of Russia. What do they focus on? To the operational groups of psychological operations, which are expanding their activities in the territories occupied by Russia. They also operated until the active phase of the invasion. Their main task is to psychologically process local residents, monitor their mood, conduct analysis and draw conclusions. Prepare, control and distribute propaganda materials – both in the Russian-controlled and free territories of Ukraine. These groups have a close cooperation with paid journalists of the Russian Federation. Journalists receive assignments from the Federal Security Service or the Main Intelligence Service of Russia. Their main task is to correctly and promptly present and reflect the situation in Ukraine on the main Russian TV channels.

Ukrainian journalists fall into the trap of Russian propaganda
It has often happened that Ukrainian journalists, fulfilling their professional duties, unwittingly become a propaganda weapon in the hands of Russia. Thus, the journalists themselves cause more damage than the bullets of the enemy soldiers. For example, if a journalist interviews a soldier who withdraws from the battlefield and knows only his sector…

The soldier says: Russian forces are attacking us, everything is bad, we have no weapons, and it is broadcast on national television. What is the view of Ukrainian civilians on this? Negative. This is immediately caught and reinforced by Russian propaganda, which creates its own plots on the topic that the Ukrainian army is not capable of fighting, there are betrayals, and the soldiers are ready to surrender.

It was a big and painful lesson of Russia’s propaganda for Ukraine in 2014-2015. Therefore, Ukraine currently covers its planned military operations in many regions with a veil of secrecy, which is much more important than, for example, in the First World War.

SLIDE REVIEWS:
The task of informational/psychological warfare units is to break the opponent’s will to fight, to turn the civilian population against the state power. The reality of the moment is a huge informational support from the KREMLIN. This clearly demonstrates Russia’s interest in conquering Ukraine and maintaining the conflict. Conquering the information space is very important. It is in this direction that Russia has approached with special skill and tactics.
