With protection he demands medicine from his daughter

Pachuca.— One month after he was stopped providing the drug tocilizumab for idiopathic arthritis suffered by his daughter, Ofelia Martínez Morales, originally from the Sierra de Hidalgo, filed an amparo before the Fourth District Court in Pachuca against the Institute of Health for Welfare (Insabi) to demand that the supply of treatment continue.

This amparo is the first in Hidalgo and the eighth nationwide within the “I defend you” campaign, which seeks the federal government to comply with the delivery of medicines for sick patients in all hospitals.

Ophelia, 35, said she is originally from the community of El Naranjo, located in the municipality of La Mision.

He explained that his daughter, Yuliana Itzel Lozano Martínez, who turned 18, was withdrawn from the medicine at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition, as well as 14 other children.

“It is not worth taking the medicine, they are children,” he said, and said that, if appropriate, the drug has a cost of more than 14 thousand pesos and requires two bottles a month, so you do not have the possibility of acquiring it.

He indicated that they are a poor family in the mountains and who have had to make various sacrifices to be able to heal Yuliana, since they have to go to Mexico City to their consultations and sometimes they must stay for up to a week.

He said that his daughter began to show symptoms of the condition at age eight: “Suddenly one day he told me that his bones ached and he started with a lot of fever.”

He points out that at the beginning he went to several doctors in Hidalgo until he was diagnosed and was transferred to the children’s hospital.

Because of the disease, her daughter cannot walk, she has suffered two cardiac arrests and several fractures, so she must take the medicine for life.

According to Ofelia Martínez, the problem is that when Yuliana turns 18 years old, the hospital does not want to continue with her treatment, so she awaits the response to protection.
