Around 30 percent of the funding is still available

Vienna (OTS) – An initial balance sheet after one year of e-cargo bike funding from the State of Vienna for companies shows: 145 companies have already received financial support for the acquisition of around 160 electric cargo bikes and electric cargo trailers. Another 100 businesses have already registered and are preparing to buy. “With the funding for e-cargo bikes, we are helping Viennese companies switch to climate-friendly mobility,” said Jürgen Czernohorszky, City Councilor for Climate Change.

Around 0.67 tons of CO2 can be saved per year for each transport bike supported. With currently around 160 e-cargo bikes, this means potential CO2 savings of around 1,000 tons over the next ten years.

Small and medium-sized companies from a wide variety of industries

Most of the funding applicants are small and medium-sized companies from a variety of industries – from retail to gastronomy, from art and culture to construction. It is precisely these sectors and companies that have been hit hardest by the economic effects of the current corona pandemic. “The funding campaign not only makes a valuable contribution to the implementation of the energy and climate protection goals of the City of Vienna, but also provides support in the current crisis,” said Czernohorszky.

When asked about the motivation for the purchase, many companies mentioned the easier parking in the city as well as the company-internal conversion to CO2-free transport. The resulting cost and time savings are repeatedly emphasized as decisive factors for switching to this environmentally friendly type of transport. Around 30 percent of the funding is still available

The purchase of lighter e-cargo bikes for a payload of between 40 kg and 100 kg is subsidized with a maximum of 2,000 euros, large electric cargo bikes for a payload of 100 kg or more are subsidized with up to 4,000 euros (max. 30% of the net acquisition costs).

The funding campaign ends when the funding pot is exhausted, but no later than December 31, 2021. A total of 800,000 euros are available from the Green Electricity Fund of the State of Vienna. Around 30 percent of the funding is currently still available.
