With Biden and Pence: September 11th Commemoration in New York

US Vice President Mike Pence and former Vice President and current Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden were among the participants.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, all participants were asked to wear masks and keep their distance. In addition, this time the names of the victims were not read out by family members, but played over the loudspeaker. A memorial foundation held another funeral service nearby. Relatives read out the names – in compliance with mask and hygiene rules. Vice President Pence wanted to attend too.

On September 11, 2001, around 3,000 people were killed. Islamist terrorists drove three hijacked traffic machines into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington. A fourth hijacked machine crashed in Pennsylvania.

As a souvenir, two blue beams of light mark the locations of the two towers in New York on the nights around the date. The top of the Empire State Building and other buildings in New York were also illuminated in blue. On Saturday, the museum wanted to reopen its doors to visitors in memory of September 11th after a six-month break in the corona pandemic.
