The result of this tender made the US space agency NASA choose SpaceX on a mission which has a contract value of 2.9 billion US dollars or Rp 42.1 trillion.

NASA last sent astronauts to the moon 48 years ago via a shuttle named Apollo in 1972.

Apparently, this will repeat itself after Musk won the bid to make the first female astronaut mission to the Moon.

“Through this contract, the United States will be advancing in the final stages of a mission to land astronauts on the Moon in 2024. This mission is a special moment where we will see the first woman to land on the Moon,” said NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine. (19/4/2021).

The SpaceX mission to send astronauts to the moon is named Artemis. The Orion capsule will be launched on a Space Launch System (SLS) rocket from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida.

When they reach Earth’s orbit, 2 astronauts, one of them a woman, will move to a lander system called SpaceX’s Human Landing System (HLS) and land on the Moon.

After a week on the Moon, they will return to Orion’s capsule and then return to Earth. In order for this mission to go well, the HLS spacecraft will be equipped with the Raptor engine made by SpaceX. In addition, the cabin of the aircraft used by astronauts has a more spacious cabin for astronauts.

Although it is not yet known the name of the female astronaut who will participate in this mission, the name Artemis has a philosophical meaning for SpaceX. In ancient Greek mythology, Artemis is the goddess of the moon who is the twin of the god Apollo.

The Artemis 1 mission will be the opening mission of a series of missions to the Moon and Mars. This trip will be taken within a distance of 450,600 km from Earth and this Artemis mission will take 3 weeks.
