Windows 7 users can still upgrade to Windows 10 for free

It seems that Microsoft’s program launched a few years ago, through which Windows 7 users could upgrade their operating system to Windows 10 for free, was a marketing ploy. With its help, the company pushed users to switch to using the current version of the software platform. Despite the fact that this program was completed several years ago, Windows 7 users can still make the free upgrade to Windows 10.

Recall that official support for Windows 7 ended in January this year. The program, under which users could migrate from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for free, came to an end back in 2016. However, users can now upgrade their legacy operating system for free using the Media Creation Tool.

After launching the Media Creation Tool, you need to select the “Update this computer now” option, make sure that all data stored on the device will be saved, and also agree to the proposed terms. Once installation is complete, you can get a free Windows 10 digital license when your computer can connect to Microsoft’s activation servers. In addition, the OS can be activated manually using a key from the previously used Windows 7.

It is worth noting that this option only works if you update a licensed copy of Windows 7 and is not suitable if you plan to perform a clean installation of Windows 10. Most likely, Microsoft is aware of this loophole, but for some reason the company is in no hurry to close it. How long the option to update the OS using the Media Creation Tool will work is unknown, but, as of the end of December, it is still relevant.

If you notice an error, select it with the mouse and press CTRL + ENTER.
