Windows 11: The first images of Microsoft’s new system leak

A few days ago, the Microsoft announced that at the end of June a event where it promises to show the “new generation” of Windows. But a leak of a preliminary version of the system on a Chinese website may have spoiled much of the surprise, revealing to us several elements of the new “face” of the operating system.

Let’s start with the name: at least in this version, the “new” Windows is definitely called Windows 11. Something that makes sense, as earlier this week Microsoft announced for the first time a date for the end of Windows 10 support as a whole.

According to the website The Verge, Windows 11 makes use of several elements that were being developed for the newly canceled Windows 10X. The taskbar is the most visible change, with a simplified look and icons centered at the bottom of the screen, reminding the “dock” of the Mac OS.

The search field has been removed and replaced with a button that opens an interface with dedicated search options. O Start menu it’s also been simplified: Windows 10’s “dynamic blocks” are gone, and the focus is on the apps you’ve decided to pin to the menu and recent documents, as well as options to shut down or restart your computer.

One detail that stands out is the rounded corners in windows and menus, something Microsoft never used in previous versions of the system. Windows 11 also marks the return of the “widgets“, applets that now live in a movable panel on the left of the screen.

There is also better integration with the Xbox, with the app now being part of the system and facilitating access to games and contacts on the service’s social network, and a new installation/first use experience, for when the user migrates from Windows 10. There is still no official release date for Windows 11, nor information about its pricing or migration options for Windows 10 users. Microsoft is expected to reveal more details at its event, which will take place on June 24th at 12:00 am EDT ).
