Windwos 10 updates are not just a hassle for users. With the May update, Microsoft has indeed integrated a new and very useful tool; Windows File Recovery. This new utility available for free from the Microsoft Store allows you to recover files accidentally deleted. Obviously, the tool will reveal its usefulness if the files have disappeared from the trash.
A novelty that went unnoticed that was finally spotted by a Windows specialist, Walking Cat, and shared on Twitter. The tool takes the form of a command line utility. It therefore has no graphical interface and its simplicity could even scare some novice users. Windows File Recovery seems to be the ideal solution to several problems.
This makes it possible to recover deleted files on a hard disk, an SSD, a USB drive, as well as on an SD card. Depending on the date a file was deleted, the procedure will be somewhat different, the same is true for formatted storage or a corrupted disk.
After downloading the tool from the Microsoft Store, you can launch it on your machine. You will then have to enter several pieces of information from the command prompt, including the source drive, the type of lost file and the drive on which you want to restore it. In fact, you will just need the steps listed in the command prompt.
Microsoft’s promises with this new utility are great and will need to be tested. For this, it is imperative to have installed version 19041 of Windows 10, that is, the May 2020 update. In all cases, Windows File Recovery is primarily intended for hackers rather than the general public. We can always hope that Microsoft rethinks its utility, with a real interface for example, and makes it easier to use for users who are unfamiliar.
