Windows 10: Driver tool no longer in device manager

Every Windows professional knows: When the hardware is troubled, the drivers are often to blame. So far it was enough to select the appropriate device in the device manager and look for updates for the drivers. This is no longer the case – the automatic online driver search is no longer available in the device manager. The tool can now only search the PC for drivers that have already been downloaded, so you would first have to find your driver on the Internet yourself.

Anyone looking for updates for hardware drivers must now go to the settings and look for the so-called “optional updates”. Driver updates can be found there in a clear list, where you can choose which ones you want to install.

This change is not limited to a few insider versions, but can already be seen in the final Windows 10 2004. If you have installed the May update and go to the device manager to search for drivers, you only have the option of searching locally for drivers.
